Biography

Matthew O’Halloran is a film composer and songwriter. He is best known for his score music to The New Romantic (2018), The Next Step (2017).

Matthew O’Halloran is a composer and songwriter who combines both worlds to create original music; with a fondness for unorthodox instruments and modern soundscapes, Matthew brings a non-classical approach to marrying sound with picture. As a frontman, Matthew has travelled the world performing live music. Most recently as the vocalist for indie rock group ‘The Corner’. The band opened for Cut Copy, Belle & Sebastian and Travis at Spain’s Sonorama Music Festival. In 2013 Matthew was selected to become a songwriter/composer for the Canadian Film Centre’s Slaight Music Residency, during his time at the CFC, Matthew had the opportunity to write music for an episode of THE LISTENER, Patrick J. Adam’s directorial debut WE ARE HERE and numerous short films including two that premiered at TIFF, Slater Jewel-Kemker’s STILL and Rob Grant’s WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU.
Matthew’s recent work includes composing and songwriting for BBC’s LOST & FOUND MUSIC STUDIOS and the score for Carly Stone’s debut feature film, THE NEW ROMANTIC that premiered at SXSW and was awarded Best First Feature.
In early 2018 Matthew was one of the few artists (including Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Adult Karate ft. Adaline) to donate music to the upcoming documentary on climate change YOUTH UNSTOPABLE.
