Atomic Heart is a 2023 single-player first-person shooter video game with role-playing elements developed by Mundfish and published by Focus Entertainment and 4Divinity. Set in an alternate history version of the Soviet Union in the 1950s, the game initially portrays a retrofuturistic utopia that descends into a dystopia following a robot uprising.
Mundfish, an international studio headquartered in Cyprus with offices in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, is the developer behind Atomic Heart. Before working on this title, they developed the VR game Soviet Lunapark but ceased its development and delisted it in late 2018 to focus on Atomic Heart. The game is built using Unreal Engine 4 and was advertised to support ray tracing and DLSS technologies for GeForce RTX graphics cards. However, ray tracing was not implemented in time for the game’s release, with Mundfish planning to add the feature post-launch.
The game was released on 21st February 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
The soundtrack of Atomic Heart was composed by three individuals: Mick Gordon, renowned for his work in video game titles like Doom, Prey, and Wolfenstein series, Andrey Bugrov, also known as Boogrov, and Geoffrey Day. The game’s soundtrack includes original tracks created exclusively for the game and features popular Soviet songs and their remixes, such as Arlekino and Zvyozdnoye leto by Alla Pugacheva, Trava u doma by Zemlyane, and Kosil Yas’ Konyushinu by Pesniary.
