Heartstopper is a 2022-2023 British coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama television series on Netflix, based on the webcomic and graphic novel of the same name created by Alice Oseman. The story revolves around the lives of two main characters, Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson, who are both students at the same school. Charlie is a gay schoolboy who falls in love with Nick, his classmate whom he sits next to in his new form. The show received widespread critical acclaim, praised for its touching tone and pacing, as well as its authentic portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters and themes.
The television rights for the series were acquired by See-Saw Films in 2019, and Netflix obtained distribution rights in 2021. Euros Lyn served as the director of the series. Starring – Joe Locke, Kit Connor, Sebastian Croft, Yasmin Finney, Momo Yeung, Joseph Balderrama, William Gao, Rhea Norwood, Jenny Walser, Fisayo Akinade, and Cormac Hyde-Corrin. Filming for the first season took place from April to June, and the season was released on 22nd April 2022 on Netflix.
Heartstopper not only attracted new audiences to the graphic novels but also increased the popularity of the songs featured in the series. The show’s soundtrack included various pre-existing songs, along with an original score composed by Adiescar Chase.
Due to the immense success of the first season, the series was renewed for a second season, which is scheduled for release on 3rd August 2023. Additionally, a third season is reportedly in development.
