The Boy and the Heron (also known as How Do You Live?, Kimitachi wa Do Ikiru ka or 君たちはどう生きるか) is a 2023 Japanese fantasy animated film, loosely based on the 1937 novel of the same name by Genzaburo Yoshino. It’s written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, produced by Studio Ghibli, and distributed by Toho. The anime stars (voices) Luca Padovan / Soma Santoki, Robert Pattinson / Masaki Suda, Karen Fukuhara / Aimyon, Gemma Chan / Yoshino Kimura, Christian Bale / Takuya Kimura, Mark Hamill / Shohei Hino, Willem Dafoe / Kaoru Kobayashi, Florence Pugh / Ko Shibasaki, and Dave Bautista / Jun Kunimura.
The Boy and the Heron premiered in Japan on 14th July and in the US at the New York Film Festival on 1st October 2023. The anime is scheduled to release in the US theatres on 8th December 2023.
