The Promised Land (earlier and also known as King’s Land, Bastarden, The Bastard) is a 2023 historical drama film based on the 2020 Danish bestselling book The Captain And Ann Barbara (Kaptajnen og Ann Barbara) by the award-winning author Ida Jessen. The film is written by Nikolaj Arcel and Anders Thomas Jensen, directed by Nikolaj Arcel, produced by Zentropa, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, Sveriges Television, and TV2 Danmark, distributed by Magnolia Pictures and Nordisk Film Distribution. Mads Mikkelsen and Amanda Collin are in the lead roles, also starring – Simon Bennebjerg, Melina Hagberg, Kristine Kujath Thorp, Gustav Lindh, Morten Hee Andersen, Magnus Krepper, Thomas W. Gabrielsson, Soren Malling, Jacob Lohmann, Morten Burian, Olaf Hojgaard, and Felix Kramer.
The Promised Land premiered at the Venice Film Festival on 1st September 2023 and is scheduled to be released in the US on 2nd February 2024.
