Io Capitano is a 2023 drama film based on an original idea by Matteo Garrone. The film was directed by Matteo Garrone, known for his work on films like Gomorrah and Tale of Tales. The screenplay for the film was written by Matteo Garrone along with Massimo Gaudioso, Massimo Ceccherini, and Andrea Tagliaferri, produced by several production companies, including Archimede, Rai Cinema, Tarantula, Pathe, and Logical Content Ventures. It also had coproduction support from RTBF, VOO-BE TV, Proximus, and Shelter Prod. Funding and support for the film came from various sources, including the Ministry of Culture, Film and Audiovisual Centre of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, taxshelter.be, ING, the tax shelter of the Belgian federal government, and the participation of Canal+, Cine+, and Wallimage (Wallonia).
