Sanditon is a 2019-2023 British historical romantic drama television series based on an unfinished manuscript by Jane Austen. The original novel by Jane Austen was incomplete, with only eleven chapters finished. Set in the Regency era, the show follows the story of a young and innocent heroine as she navigates the newly established seaside resort of Sanditon. Developed by Andrew Davies, produced by Red Planet Pictures, distributed by Britbox, PBS, and ITV, and stars Rose Williams, Kate Ashfield, Crystal Clarke, Turlough Convery, Kris Marshall, Jack Fox, Anne Reid, Charlotte Spencer, Lily Sacofsky, Theo James, Alexandra Roach, Matthew Needham, Leo Suter, Mark Stanley, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Edward Davis, Tom Weston-Jones, Sophie Winkleman, Alexander Vlahos, Rosie Graham, Alice Orr-Ewing, Liam Garrigan, Frank Blake, Maxim Ays, Cai Brigden, James Bolam, and Emma Fielding.
The series premiered on ITV in the United Kingdom on 25th August 2019, with eight episodes. In the United States, it premiered on PBS on 12th January 2020, as part of the Masterpiece anthology. The collaboration between PBS and BritBox led to the commissioning of a second and third season in May 2021, with ITV securing the series for later linear broadcast. Sanditon Season 2 aired from 20th March to 24th April 2022 and Sanditon Season 3 from 19th March to 23rd April 2023.
